The success of the John Jacob’s Golf Schools revolves around Shelby Futch, his commitment to excellence and his love for the game of golf. Shelby has earned an international reputation with a career that spans every phase of golf. He has played numerous tours around the world, owned a chain of retail golf stores as well as a national golf club company. But his true love has always been teaching. While teaching with John Jacobs in the 1970's, he convinced John that his approach to the game was so unique and practical that they should start the John Jacobs' Golf Schools. The rest is history as the schools have grown into "The World Leader in Golf Instruction".
Shelby has been recognized by, and written for, some of the industry’s most coveted golf publications and is consistently honored by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golf Tips as one of the world’s top instructors. He has produced two series of golf instruction videos, was featured in the book Golf Gurus, and has appeared on The Golf Channel’s Golf Academy Live. As an international ambassador for golf instruction, he is a frequent guest speaker for both the Hong Kong and China PGA Tours. Shelby is very active in the schools as CEO insuring that all the instructors are teaching the famous "practical golf" method of instruction. |

At the core of our successful teaching methods is John Jacobs’ original theory of “ball flight analysis” There is no perfect swing, no two swings are exactly alike, and it is not so much about how you get there as to what happens when the club face hits the ball. When you leave the school or academy with longer more consistent shots we want you to understand how your golf ball behaves and your swing fault & cure. As much as many teaching programs out there today teach "a method" requiring long hours of practice & devotion we continue to teach the practical simplicty of John's philosphy that has improved the games of thousands of golfers worldwide. |

Schools vs Academies: For over 35 years, the vast majority of our students have attended our golf schools, usually scheduled for at least two days and up to five days. These schools generally consisted of about five hours of instruction each day, and also included a round of golf after instruction and lunch. The small group setting provides a wonderful learning experience as well as a great social setting for people to learn and play with other golfers, as they either came with their friends or made new friends in the golf school. Simple practical instruction on all facets of the game, great golf courses and wonderful camaraderie are still our successful formula making the schools so popular today.
We still offer these schools at all of our locations…but in order to meet the needs of our students who might want more flexible schedules, who might want to focus on one particular aspect of their game and not on their entire game, or who might feel that they can learn more going one on one with an instructor, we now offer academies for private lessons at most of our locations. At our academies, you get the same John Jacobs' instruction, but it can be scheduled at your convenience and tailored to your needs.
